The Town of
Lauderdale-By-The-Sea’s Web site contains information about Town Government, recreation, permits, public
safety, Town services, our Municipal Code and more. You can
even watch Town Commission meetings online. Known as Florida's Beach Diving Capital, the Town is proud of its great beach diving on our reefs, its Blue Wave beaches and partnership in Florida's Scenic Highways Program!
The Town held another successful BugFest-By-The-Sea event in late July as part of its annual lobster mini-season dive festival, where scuba divers can win cash and prizes in the Great Florida Bug Hunt. Thanks to Mayor Chris Vincent for participating as one of the judges in the lobster chef cooking competition. The diver featured in the photo is Mike Maler, a Miami resident who won the prize for the biggest lobster caught off a boat (4.1 lbs). The photo shows him at El Prado Park with two of his bigger catches. If you are wondering why the event is called BugFest, you are not alone. Divers call lobsters "bugs" because they crawl along the ocean floor. This year's event was the seventh annual. The Town also sponsored a concert on July 28 to benefit Diveheart, a non-profit group that teaches people with disabilities how to scuba dive. Through raffle ticket sales and sponsorships, Diveheart raised an estimated $40,000. Thanks to Aruba Beach Cafe, Gold Coast Scuba, Village Grille, 101 Ocean, Plunge Beach Hotel, Coast Boutique, Billy Jack's Restaurant, Sea Cliff, High Noon, Windjammer Resort and everyone else who participated in BugFest or helped out in any way this year. Your support is appreciated.
