Code COMPLIANCE

Goals

The Town of Lauderdale-By-The-Sea is concerned with the upkeep and overall aesthetics of all residential, business and commercial property within its corporate limits. It is the intent of Code Compliance to promote, protect and improve the health, safety and welfare of the citizens of the Town through the enforcement of the Town’s Code of Ordinances and state statutes. It is also the intent of Code Compliance to provide an equitable, expeditious, effective and inexpensive method of enforcing codes, ordinances and statutes.

To meet this goal, the Town contracts with Calvin Giordano & Associates, a local firm, to provide Code Compliance services. The Code office is located in the Development Services Building, which is adjacent to Town Hall. See a list of current active code cases (PDF).

Filing a Complaint by Phone or Online

Anyone with concerns about potential code violations can either file a complaint online or by calling the Code Compliance office Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at 954-640-4220 or 954-640-4216. If no one is available to take your call, it is quite possible that the code officers are in the field making inspections. Please leave a message with your contact information and the location and nature of the violation.

The officer assigned to the case will conduct an inspection of the property to determine if a violation exists and return your call. Please note: If this is a noise complaint that is after working hours, please call the non-emergency number at 954-764-4357. You may also email the Code Office for more information.

If You Are Cited

If you receive a Notice of Violation, you must quickly resolve the problem. You may ask for more time to comply provided you are making progress on correcting the violation. Serious problems that relate to public health, safety and welfare must not be delayed.

If you are unwilling to correct the problem within the allotted time, you face several consequences. If legal action is necessary, you will be given a Notice of Hearing before the Code Compliance Magistrate, who will render a final order in the matter. To avoid liens and fines, it is your responsibility to correct the Town Code violations.
